MG produced this as a "Chassis Only" Left-Hand drive TD with Export to North America specifications (EXLNA), on 21 May, 1953. The Vessel ledgers show that Arnolt convertible 316 was shipped on the SS Annik with convertibles 310, 313, 318, 319 and 320, and coupes 315 and 317, received in Chicago on 24 June, 1954. Purchaser was J. S. Inskip, New York, on 4 May 1955, invoice 28. This rough but largely-complete convertible; coupe 245 and the rear 1/2 of coup[e 258, appeared in a minor CT auction in May, 2019, described as "from a local New Hartford collection." Altho missing the Arnolt ID plate, the XPAG engine number matches the record for convertible 316. After the sale, ownership of the three Arnolts was called into question - there were indications that the seller's estate did not actually own the cars, but had stored them for others in his Western Connecticut barn. I believe the cars were then lost to the original owners. Despite its derelict condition, convertible 316 appears largely complete.
